The Colors of Spring

Trending Colors for Kitchen Design
Spring is around the corner, and we’re starting to see color not only outside in the garden, but in our showroom, too! We’ve mentioned previously that attention has shifted away from the all-white or white and grey kitchen, toward color. Color is appearing in kitchens in a variety of ways. Blues and greens are showing up in kitchen countertops, gold fixtures and hardware are adding pop and all sorts of colors are being chosen for cabinets.

Color Runs the Gamut
There are some different approaches that homeowners are taking to add color to their kitchens. Some choose a more conservative approach, adding subtle color with their choice of countertop – choosing a surface with colored veining that draws the eye and adds interest and pairing this with accents of the same color. The middle ground might be a countertop with bolder color and walls painted in a similar shade. The adventurous homeowner might use two (or sometimes three) colors and make a bright, bold statement; perhaps a bold color on the cabinets, a contrasting color on the walls and a distinctive countertop, as well.
Think Pink!
HGTV’s David Bromstad, host of My Lottery Dream Home, loves pink cabinets because they’re “happy and fun.” Bromstad recommends a neutral backsplash to balance the bold color of the cabinets. Painting your cabinets is “powerful self-expression,” making a big impact on the room without breaking your budget.
He does acknowledge that pink kitchens are not for everyone and recommends green as a bold, bright and cheerful alternative that comes in many shades; and if green doesn’t appeal to you, you can always opt for classic black, which is making a comeback.
It’s Your Space
The bottom line for Bromstad is do what makes you happy; it’s your house! Trends are great, but sometimes people get hung up on the trends instead of looking at what will make them happy.
