What is the largest island you can fabricate?
The size of the island can vary based on the size of the slab, assuming a customer does not want a seam. We can fabricate and install islands up to 100" X 42" without extra charges. A larger island may require additional labor.
What is the cost of a surface by square foot?
Materials are not priced by square foot. Additionally, materials vary significantly by material and specific color/design. We typically stock mid-priced materials, not the lowest cost nor the most expensive or exotic surfaces. Pricing is calculated based on the material plus the labor. Projects may need multiple slabs.
I have a small kitchen (25 sq ft), can I buy remnants?
Most likely not. Most remnants are less than 70 inches long and are typically from different lots.
What happens to the leftover pieces from my slab?
Leftover pieces of the slab become the property of Merrimack Stone & Cabinets. If, at the time we are fabricating your kitchen counter top, you wish to determine if there would be enough stone left in your slab to make something else – for example a table top – we can fabricate that at the same time for the additional cost of the labor only.
We are looking to add to our existing kitchen, can you match the granite?
Most likely not. Granite slabs vary from one lot to another. If the two parts are seamed together, it will be noticeable. It is best to look for something neutral that compliments the existing tops.
What type of quartz do you carry?
We offer a wide variety of quality brands to fit every budget and style. View our Quartz Collection and you are sure to find options you will love.
Can porcelain only be used for countertops?
While porcelain can be used for countertops, it is also an excellent choice for fireplace and shower surrounds, as well as backsplashes and walls.
How do I care for Luxa porcelain?
Luxa porcelain surfaces are relatively easy to maintain. They are nonporous and therefore require no sealing. Use warm water and mild soap for day to day cleaning.
How often do I need to seal my granite countertops?
The answer depends on the type of granite and on usage. Even though some granites may require sealing once a year, the majority do not require sealing past the original sealing. In any case, sealing is a very simple process that takes just a few minutes. Merrimack Stone & Cabinets seals the granite after we install your new countertops. Just clean regularly with warm water and lightly colored dish soap and be sure to avoid using any abrasive cleaners that will break down your seal quicker.
Does granite stain?
Typically, no. Granite is porous like all stone, so if liquid is left for an extended period of time it is possible. The sealing of granite should slow this process. However, any liquid that penetrates the stone’s pores can then usually be extracted from the stone.
What is the thickness of the granite?
Our granite is 3cm (approx. 1 ¼”) thick, the standard for kitchen countertops.
What if my project does not require a full slab?
We have an expansive selection of remnants to choose from so you don’t have to buy more material than you need. You never know what you might find, as our selection varies from commonly sourced materials to one-of-a-kind special orders.
Where are your cabinets made?
Our cabinets are all manufactured in the U.S.A. with domestic and global components.
Can I buy cabinets elsewhere and just have Merrimack Stone & Cabinets install countertops?
Yes, but if you source both cabinets and counters from us, you will get quality, affordable cabinets with lead times cut in half. We have four different lines with styles from classic to contemporary. And, we offer a large selection of cabinet hardware from Hardware Resources, making the process even easier.

Why should we approve our natural stone slabs before you fabricate them?
You’re making an important investment in your natural stone countertops that we want you to enjoy for many years. We want you to be completely satisfied with your choice of material before we fabricate the natural stone and install your new countertops. Every slab of natural stone has unique variations in color, shading, and texture, in addition to natural pits, dry veins, and fissures. Due to the nature of stone fabrication, we cannot guarantee that a specific slab, or part of a slab, from your selected material will be used or avoided in a particular area of your installation. The dimensions of natural stone slabs vary. The layout of your countertop area will determine the number of seams you will have and their locations. All seams will be visible to the eye and to the touch. We want you to carefully view and select the exact slab(s) for us to fabricate your countertop. Before we fabricate, we will present layouts of your kitchen countertops using your slab(s) so you can see how the natural variations of the slab(s) you chose will be highlighted in your countertops.
What is the difference between an "undermount" sink and a "drop-in" sink and is there a cost difference for the type of cutout required?
a) Undermount Sink - Fasteners underneath the countertop hold an "undermount" sink so that a polished edge of granite is exposed above the sink.
b) Drop-In Sink - A "drop-in" sink has a lip that folds over the countertop and rests on top of the cutout.
Price Differences - An undermount sink cutout requires more polishing and installation labor than a drop-in sink cutout and therefore is a more expensive option. Different edges are also available.
